SkyPower partners with BYD to enter into 750 MW PV+storage tender in India

Canadian solar energy developer SkyPower and China-based energy storage expert BYD have entered into an agreement to submit a joined bid in the upcoming up to 750 MW solar+ storage tenders in India.

As SkyPower announced today, the agreement had been signed at the opening ceremony of the China-Canada Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference. “BYD's award-winning environmentally-friendly battery storage technology, in concert with SkyPower's wealth of experience in developing utility-scale solar projects, will enable a significant solar implementation strategy in India,” the company says in the announcement.

In March, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) announced that the bidders in the forthcoming Andhra Pradesh solar tender would be asked to include energy storage component in their projects. SECI expects 100 out of 750 MW of auctioned projects to include some sort of storage element.

By implementing energy storage systems, Indian government intends to make it possible to transfer solar energy between states, while also reducing the intermittency inherent to solar installations.
