Bringing clean energy to local communities: the O’Brien Solar Project
Clean energy is in high demand, and solar projects developed in the Midwest have the potential to supply it. There is a lot to be gained for the utility sector and large-scale energy users, but also for an often-forgotten player: the local community.
EDF Renewables, in partnership with Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), developed a 20 MW solar project in Fitchburg, Wisconsin: the O’Brien Solar project. The electricity produced is made available to local businesses under the utility’s Renewable Energy Rider (RER) program. With the interests of the local community at its core, MGE’s innovative model allows it to partner with city government, educational institutions, local businesses, and costumers looking to relocate or expand in the Fitchburg area.
Join this pv magazine Webinar to gain insight into the process that led to the project’s development and understand what drives these kinds of projects forward in the Midwest. Lincoln Lande, Vice President, Business Development at EDF Renewables and Todd Montevideo, Manager of Renewable and Distributed Energy Engineering at MGE will take us through the O’Brien solar project and discuss how the Midwest, and Wisconsin in particular, can lead the way in solar deployment.
