On Tuesday, Ecotricity announced that construction on its one megawatt photovoltaic park at the time, the countrys biggest had been completed. The company said the site, located on Fen Farm in Lincolnshire, will be the UKs first to generate both wind and solar energy.
Ecotricity went on to say that it believes there is big potential for these types of "hybrid Energy Parks". However it stated that the government has killed off further big solar projects due to its FIT changes.
In a statement, it commented: "Ecotricity had plans for several more large-scale sun parks across the UK, which could also have been up and running in 2011. The plans are now ‘in the bin', as a result of the Coalition Governments decision to pull the plug on big solar."
Country's largest
In other news, Lightsource Renewable Energy and Solarcentury have developed and grid connected the countrys largest photovoltaic plant. The 1.4 MW system is located across a 2.9 hectare site at Wheal Jane, a reclaimed tin mine site, in the UKs south west.
Expected to generate 1,437 MW hours of power annually, it is comprised of almost 5,700 photovoltaic modules.
Finally, Eos Energy has announced its 1.15 MW is nearing completion. The £3 million array is being built at Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay, Cornwall. When complete, the energy generated will be used towards the parks 1.5 gigawatt annual energy consumption.
The project is being built across five acres of land the company says it is installing 1,000 photovoltaic panels per day.
