Nuclear Power Corp. of India Ltd. (NPCIL) has approached Ciel & Terre to install a floating solar plant on a sea water dyke at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu, India.
Ciel & Terre has completed a 120 MWp floating solar project in India, introducing several company firsts in engineering and design, including rock bolt anchoring and a reinforced fiberglass inverter barge. The system also marks the French PV specialist’s first use of spin welding in its floating platform assembly.
French floating PV specialist Ciel & Terre says it now has more than 1.5 GW of floating PV projects in the design phase or under construction. It has already completed 280 floating solar projects in more than 30 countries, totaling 820 MW.
Developer 7C Solarparken has deployed a 729 kW floating system on a lake near Salzwedel. Power trader Next Kraftwerke will integrate power generated at the site into its virtual power plant.
The New Development Bank has agreed to offer a $180 million loan with sovereign guarantee to Eskom. The utility, which is based just outside of Johannesburg, plans to build new infrastructure to integrate 670 MW of unspecified renewables into the South African grid.
The project was awarded under a 1 GW tender intended to install renewable generation capacity in former mining areas where subsidence and flooding have left huge basins of standing water.
The French floating PV specialist is building a 70 MW solar facility for CECEP in China’s Anhui province.
French floating PV specialists Ciel & Terre have installed a 220 kW PV installation at a hydroelectric dam on Portugal’s Rabagão River. Though a comparatively small installation, this represents the first time the two technologies have been used in tandem at utility scale.
