The 37 MW PV project is part of Malawi’s action plan to free the country from its dependence on hydropower, which currently accounts for over 90% of its energy supply.

Econet wants to build commercial and industrial PV systems across its homeland, Kenya, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. South Africa-based investment firm Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) has made a $20 million equity investment in these projects.

The solar park is being built by French developer GreenYellow and is expected to come online by mid-2021.

According to the country’s Ministry of Energy, an unspecified UAE solar company has committed to building several large scale PV plants across the country. These new projects would be granted a 20-year PPA and would be Sudan’s first solar parks.

The solar-plus-storage facility will be linked to the mine’s existing thermal power plant and is expected to reduce the cost of the kilowatts currently consumed by its operations by $0.04. The project developer is British oil provider Vivo Energy.

The latest project is another African opportunity for the India-based EPC player after successfully commissioning Nigeria’s first solar-plus-storage hybrid power plant, which is also Africa’s largest battery energy storage system.

German developer Clean Power Generation will build three PV plants in two different parts of the West African nation. All of the projects will sell electricity to state-owned utility Electricité De Guinée.

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy is tendering three solar power projects with capacity of 40 MW each. Mozambican utility Electricidade de Mocambique (EDM) is likely to be the future buyer of the renewable energy generated.

Alsace start-up Ecosun is developing innovative microgrid solutions to provide electricity in isolated areas.

The 30 MW fab will assemble modules with power ratings from 260 W to more than 330 W.
