Sungrow and ABB partner on 1500v central inverter promotion

Sungrow has signed a strategic collaboration with ABB to work together on the promotion and development of reliable and efficient inverter stations. The details of the agreement stipulate that the two companies will work together to bring mutual promotion to each other’s products during that timeframe, including the co-design of a medium voltage inverter container with transformer for use in high-performance solar power plants.

Sungrow’s latest 1500 Volt inverter station – The SG3000HV-MV – was unveiled at the recent SNEC exhibition and was designed for systems up to 3MW block requiring single output from inverter. The central inverter station is equipped with ABB’s customized & highly efficient transformer to enable lower costs, high efficiency, increased user-friendliness and to assist connection of more solar modules to single inverter station.

According to Sungrow, this collaboration will provide both companies with opportunities to show the possibilities of joint innovation, with company president Renxian Cao stating: "It will be hugely beneficial for both parties."

In March, Sungrow connected its first 1,500 volt project to the Chinese grid – a 30 MW large-scale array located in the Xinjiang Province. The slow adoption of 1,500 volt inverters has largely been due to a lack of available 1,500 volt components elsewhere in the solar value chain, not least in module availability.

However, experts in the sector are confident that this market segment is on course for growth, with GTM Research expecting 1,500 volt installations to account for 9% of all large-scale projects globally in 2016.
