SolarCity to hire 500 new employees

SolarCity has announced that it will hold a one-day “hiring event” in ten states, through which it expects to add 500 new workers to its sales teams. The company currently employs more than 14,000 workers in the United States, and says that it has been adding 500 per month during 2015.

The hiring event on October 21 will feature 22 locations, fourteen of which are in the U.S. Northeast. All but three states from Maryland to the north and east will host events.

GTM Research Solar Analyst Nicole Litvak says SolarCity is hardly unique in adding staff. “SolarCity is most likely on a hiring spree now to prepare for the 2016 rush, as I'm sure all of the other big installers are as well,” Litvak told pv magazine.

“They'll all be trying to close as many customers as possible in the first half of next year in order to have time to complete the installs by the end of the year, so the priority right now is to hire additional sales staff.”

Litvak notes that SolarCity continues to build new operations centers, which need staff. She also expects SolarCity and other companies in this space to increase marketing and advertising spending throughout 2016.
