The government of Indian state Madhya Pradesh has agreed to purchase the solar energv developed by SkyPower under a standard, long-term PPA.
SkyPower will begin construction of the utility-scale solar plant before the end of the year, having won the contract in an auction in July at an agreed price of $0.08/kWh.
"SkyPower is committed to making a powerful contribution to Indias goal of generating 100 GW of solar power by 2022," said SkyPower CEO and president Kerry Adler. "India is leading the world in deploying solar, not only with its significant targets but by its very actions, and the people of Madhya Pradesh will benefit from clean, reliable and affordable energy as a result of the vision and leadership of this great state."
Indian PM Narendra Modi has this week urged the nations 17 states to be more proactive in their pursuit of solar power, and this PPA marks yet another large-scale landmark for Madhya Pradesh.
"We are sure that our partnership will pave the way for a wave of solar energy projects to support Indias renewable energy mission," said Sanjay Kumar Shukla, MD of M.P- Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL), the state utility. "Renewable energy is a big focus for the state of Madhya Pradesh."
