While order books may not be overflowing in the PV equipment supply segment of yet, there are signs of upgrades and therefore new tool orders coming from leading module manufacturers. The latest is an order for three of Schmid’s Multi Busbar Connector (MBC) lines, that boost conversion efficiencies by reducing the cell shading that occurs when wide busbars are employed.

Schmid says that its MBC tools can be employed to manufacturer both standard and high efficiency cells, including bifacial cells. The company says that the tools use standard materials.

Schmid will supply the tools to an unnamed Asian manufacturer. The German tool supplier indicates that the manufacturer had worked with Schmid in the past and had a “positive experience” with Schmid equipment and technology.

“The customer, a manufacturer with its own research department, places great emphasis on profitability, increased efficiency and the high degree of innovation of the MBC system which was a decisive factor in the purchase of three MBC systems from Schmid Group,” a statement from Schmid reads.

The lines will be delivered by mid 2015.
