An internal U.S. government watchdog is looking at the loans which kick-started large-scale solar in Chile, after at least three of five solar projects have made moves to restructure these loans.
In a meeting held in Berlin the head of Chile’s National Commission for Energy (CNE) presented the upcoming technology neutral power auction, which will be held in December. Solar is expected to have a significant share thanks to very favorable conditions.
Following on the progress of 300 MW of solar projects in Cauchari, the province of Jujuy has announced another gigawatt of solar PV to be installed in the northern region.
The facility, located in Puerto Sandino, is one of the country’s largest PV plants. Modules provided by Recom were installed at the plant.
Net income hit $3.3 million in the 12 months to the end of December, from a net loss of $1.6 million a year earlier, although the Hong Kong-based PV independent power producer recorded a net loss of $8.7 million in the fourth quarter, from $7.4 million in the final three months of 2015.
Ceará’s environmental authorities approved three 30 MW solar projects submitted by Steelcons Energy.
The BNDES will support a 150 MW solar project being developed by EDF and Canadian Solar in the state of Minas Gerais. The project is scheduled to come online in August 2017.
The Spanish developer has raised $104 million in financing for nine large-scale PV projects spread across India and Chile.
The funds will be devoted to large-scale wind and solar projects across Brazil.
The auction will be held in November. Under the auction’s new dispostions, solar projects will be able to sell power to more entities, while prior to these new rules the only buyer was state-owned electric utility CFE.
