Zinc-ion battery for residential applications

Developed by Canadian start-up Salient Energy, the zinc-ion battery has a rated capacity of 60 Ah, a nominal voltage of 1.3 V, and a volumetric energy density of 100 Wh/L. The device measures 26cmx24cmx1.2cm and weighs in at 1.3 kg

Modular PV and wave power desalination buoys from Canada

A floating, reverse-osmosis-based unit turns seawater into potable drinking water through the power of the sun and waves. Oneka developed the product, which requires no external electricity source and no land.

4

Repurposing EV batteries for offgrid applications

Moment Energy is one of several companies and projects supported by the ARC program, which aims to provide clean-energy storage to urban and remote diesel-dependent communities in the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Quantum adjustments for 23.9%-efficient inverted perovskite solar cell

Scientists in Canada fabricated a perovskite solar cell based on an inverted structure that achieved 23.9% efficiency, and maintained 92% of its initial performance after 500 hours of accelerated aging tests. By carefully controlling the thickness of the perovskite layer, the group was also able to gain control of “quantum mechanics” properties such as the movement of electrons within the layer and the wavelengths of light absorbed.

2

Spectrum splitters to raise efficiency of perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells

Researchers in Canada have conducted a series of simulations to understand how spectrum splitters may raise the efficiency of two-terminal tandem solar cells and have found that efficiency gains may be of up to 6%. The proposed cell configuration was also found to be economically competitive.

Mitrex releases solar brick for BIPV facades

Mitrex solar facades are being installed on a 7000 square feet area on a building in Canada, producing an estimated 90,000 kWh of power annually.

2

Solid-state lithium-ion battery with capacity retention of over 4mAh/sq cm

Researchers from the University of Waterloo, Canada, have developed a new solid chloride electrolyte that swaps out half of the indium for scandium and offers several important advantages, such as high voltage operation.

Adani Group to explore hydrogen fuel cell manufacture in India

Adani and Canadian PEM fuel cell producer Ballard Power Systems will examine various co-operation opportunities including fuel cell production.
