Together with the Swiss general contractor MBR Thurgau AG, TecnoSunSolar is implementing a solar tracking system on the flat roof of a hall with the two-axis tracker EcoChamp ST 3000 in Switzerlands Canton of Grisons.
The company that placed the order, Swiss electricity supplier Repower, made a deliberate decision in favor of the tracking system of TechnoSunSolar. Particularly in the extreme weather conditions of the Swiss mountains in Engadine, a sturdy and reliable system is a basic requirement for a functional solar installation. The roof-mounted system with 45 EcoChamp ST 3000 trackers is a showcase project for TecnoSunSolar as well as for Repower and MBR Thurgau AG.
A variety of factors were decisive for the awarding of the contract, according to Thomas Vogel, TecnoSunSolars press spokesperson. These included the very low-profile design, the high degree of stability in the presence of wind and snow, and the very low weight of the system components.
Due to the location in the mountainous region of Switzerland, the topic of shading was of central importance. Using the backtracking option of EcoChamp Tracker, this problem was effectively confronted. The mountainous location also made snowfall an important aspect in the consideration of the systems performance. This was an important reason for choosing the EcoSystem, since the snow shedding position helps snow slide off and thus ensures higher PV output, as emphasized by Björn Wiebe, head of marketing for TecnoSunSolar.
In addition to the tracking properties, Repower was also convinced by the drive concept. Another strength of the system was the drive provided by the low-maintenance and highly weather-resistant AUMA motor, according to Thomas Vogel. Depending on weather conditions, the project should be connected to the public grid by the end of March. "We are happy to have found a very good and innovative partner in TecnoSun Solar Systems AG, one that enables additional applications in the area of PV system installation by making available inexpensive solar trackers," says Christian Wolf from MBR Thurgau AG.
