Sunowe to begin ingot production

Until now, Sunowe was purchasing monocrystalline wafers, which it used to produce cells and modules. To optimize the value added chain and in order to become more competitive on the photovoltaics market, the company will start producing polycrystalline ingots in March 2011.

A production plant close to the Chinese headquarter with a capacity of 160 million pieces of 6‘ wafer has already been purchased. Sixty million pieces of wafer will be launched next March, whilst the second part will be placed into operation in 2012.

As a matter of fact, Sunowe will have an output of approximately 200 megawatts (MWs) of polycrystalline wafers: 100 MWs will be kept for own use, while 100 MWs will be sold.

"The in-house production of ingots and wafer will strengthen our independence and will turn the company into an even more attractive supplier," commented Mr. Ding, MD of Sunowe.
