A joint initiative between Chevron Qatar Energy Technology (QSTP), and GreenGulf, both tenants of QSTP, the project will help to determine the viable solar technology for Qatar, he told Qatar Foundations first Annual Research Forum, which concluded in December. Dr Maini gave a status update of QSTP projects in its focus areas of energy, environment, information and communication technology, and health sciences.
The news is further endorsement that the regions solar industry is fast becoming one of the worlds most exciting, and that the first edition of GulfSol, scheduled to be held in Dubai in September, will become one of the most important solar shows of the year.
"GulfSol 2011 will be the first international platform for companies to be seen at in the region; and what a region it is. The Gulf and Middle East will be the most exciting solar market in the next ten years as its full potential as a solar exporter and user is realized," commented Tidu Maini.
With bookings from countries from Turkey to Australia and all places in between already being made, the organizers are looking forward to a bumper event.
"GulfSol 2011 now has a more appropriate home in Dubai, and we look forward to maximizing the industrys exposure in the only dedicated PV and Solar show in the region. Why should solar companies get lost at a general renewable energy event, when they can get complete concentration and focus at GulfSol?" Burston concludes.
