Nidec ASI, part of the TSE-listed Nidec Group, which has delivered more than 400MWh of energy storage solutions to leading Independent Power Producers (IPPs) worldwide, in addition to 50MWh under construction, has supplied its trademark Power Conversion System to the renewable energy giant’s new solar PV plant in North America.

The industrial solutions multinational company has been awarded a contract by a major Italian IPP, a leader in renewable energy, for the supply of a 238-MW Power Conversion System in Mexico. The PV plant, named Don José, is located in San Luis de la Paz, in the state of Guanajuato. The Don José plant was launched on April 3rd, at an event attended by the Guanajuato State Governor Miguel Márquez Márquez, the Mayor of the San Luis De La Paz municipality Guillermo Rodríguez Contreras, and a Nidec Motor Corporation sales representative.
As far as the solar plant goes, in mid-2017 Nidec ASI will provide 68 Power Conversion Units, each with a nominal power of 3.2 MW. The plant is expected to generate 539 GWh and to reduce the country’s CO2 emissions by 244,700 tons, annually. The multinational’s innovative technology will contribute significantly to the project’s overall compliance with new energy requirements and national environmental objectives.
“This is an outstanding achievement for Nidec ASI,” said Matteo Rizzi, Nidec ASI Director, Global Sales PV & BESS. “The Mexican tender was highly competitive, with an average winning Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) price of US$40.50 per megawatt-hour, and the technical configuration required very challenging cost reduction and optimization. We view this project as a further step for Nidec ASI in the expansion of its growth in North America, which confirms its role as a global leader in the development of renewable energy projects”.

Aside from PV, Nidec ASI continues to grow in the global energy storage market. In addition to the largest BESS project in the world with a capacity of 90 MW/138MWh, recently commissioned for power giant STEAG in Germany, Nidec ASI also finalized other strategic deals. One with E.ON and one with EDF for the UK National Grid to supply battery energy storage systems for Enhanced Frequency Response (EFR) Service with a capacity of 10MW/6MWh and 49MW/34MWh respectively. Furthermore, the company also signed an agreement with Advantec in Japan for the supply and installment of a 6MW/6MWh battery energy storage system.
