Jolywood has been committed to the development and manufacturing of the world's best n-type solar cells and modules. As early as October 2016, Jolywood cooperated with imec on the industrialization of bifacial solar cells, and the two parties jointly developed industrialized bifacial solar cells with an average front conversion efficiency of 22.0%. In April this year, the joint research and development of the two parties reached another milestone. The optimized screenprinted 12BB n-type bifacial solar cell consumes less silver, and is less sensitive to metallic impurities, and has no light induced degradation (LID). Tested by ISFH CalTec, the average front conversion efficiency of the battery is 23.0%, up to 23.2%. Imec and Jolywood are convinced that the n-type bifacial solar cells jointly developed will soon achieve an efficiency of more than 24% and with bifaciality over 90%.

Not only being leading in technologies of semiconductors and photovoltaic cells, imec but also has comprehensive and in-depth research in photovoltaic materials, photovoltaic modules and photovoltaic systems. Jolywood has accumulated a lot of practical experience on R&D and manufacturing of bifacial n-type passivating contact cells. Under the framework agreement, the two parties will jointly discuss, develop and deepen cooperation on new generation of high-efficiency n-type bifacial passivating contact cells, encapsulation and soldering technology for high-efficiency modules, and application and simulation of bifacial modules.

“We have been working with Jolywood for nearly 3 years in an excellent way achieving record efficiency nPERT results”, says Dr. Jozef Szlufcik, PV department director at imec/EnergyVille. “As leading n-type silicon solar cell and module manufacturer in China, Jolywood is now at the forefront of high efficiency bifacial cell technology. We’re happy that we can now extent and broaden our collaboration beyond cell development into the modules and PV systems. We’re confident that the synergy between our technology roadmaps will ensure that we can continue realizing new leading edge PV products.”

Lin Jianwei, chairman of Jolywood, said: “Imec is the world's leading semiconductor research institute. Last year, Premier Li Keqiang visited imec exclusively. In addition to world-class microchip technology, imec's research in the field of solar energy is also very far-reaching. Combining the world's advanced scientific research technology and our own practical experience, we believe that we can jointly develop solar cells and related solar products of higher efficiency, better performance and lower cost. We believe that n-type technology can provide the global photovoltaic market better PV solution with higher cost performance, higher reliability and lower LCOE. Jolywood and imec’s cooperation will be 1+1>N.”
