TÜV Rheinland is a globally respected, independent third-party organization specializing in inspection, testing, and certification. As the energy storage industry experiences rapid growth, the existing industry specifications and standards are no longer sufficient for supporting the high-quality development of the industry. In response, TÜV Rheinland has built upon existing standards and further refined safety definitions to develop a comprehensive safety classification for energy storage tailored to specific scenarios. These efforts aim to ensure the high-quality and healthy growth of the energy storage industry.
Huawei's commercial & industrial (C&I) ESS platform becomes the first to achieve the world's highest-level safety certification from TÜV Rheinland.
The safety classification comprises three levels:
Level 1 (Basic): The ESS complies with basic laws, regulations, and standards, meeting the safety requirements for market admission.
Level 2 (Plus): The ESS provides enhanced mechanical, electrical, thermal, and environmental protection, preventing fires caused by thermal runaway at the battery pack level.
Level 3 (Prime): The ESS prevents pack-level thermal runaway from spreading even in extreme scenarios where a fire is caused by external factors, ensuring personnel safety.
TÜV Rheinland has awarded the world's first Prime certificate for ESS safety to Huawei Digital Power, marking a significant milestone in the industry. This certification underscores the unparalleled safety capabilities of the Smart String & Grid Forming ESS Platform developed by Huawei Digital Power.
Huawei's residential ESS platform achieves specialized safety certification from TÜV Rheinland
According to Weichun Li, Vice President of Global Power Electronics and General Manager of Solar & Commercial Products China at TÜV Rheinland Group, against the backdrop of China's “dual carbon goals”, the energy storage industry is poised for rapid growth and will play a crucial role in supporting the development of the renewable energy industry. As a leading enterprise in the PV and energy storage industry, Huawei Digital Power has made a significant breakthrough with the Smart String & Grid Forming ESS Platform that achieves pack-level thermal runaway control. This innovation is driving the energy storage industry toward higher quality standards.
Zhou Tao, President of Smart PV & ESS Product Line, Huawei Digital Power, expressed his gratitude to TÜV Rheinland for awarding Huawei with the industry's first highest-level safety certificate. This certification acknowledges Huawei Digital Power's
technical innovations and dedication to advancing the high-quality development of the PV and energy storage industry. Huawei Digital Power is committed to long-term growth and strives to exceed industry standards by meeting higher safety requirements and providing safer and more reliable products. Moving forward, Huawei Digital Power will collaborate with TÜV Rheinland to implement higher safety standards in the energy storage industry and facilitate its high-quality development.
ESS safety is the foundation for the sustainable and high-quality growth of the renewable energy industry. To achieve this, Huawei Digital Power has invested heavily in the quality and safety fields. By upgrading the traditional container-level thermal runaway control to the pack-level thermal runaway control, Huawei Digital Power has raised the bar for ESS safety, providing higher-level protection. With safety as its top priority, Huawei Digital Power is driving the healthy and sustainable development of the energy storage industry, and making valuable contributions to the creation of clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient new power systems.
