ertex solar export: U.S. and France

In terms of installed power the project’s 4.4 kWp doesn’t even approach the Kimbell Art Museum (KAM) by Renzo Piano with its 120 kW, but it still shines thanks to its aesthetic integration. For the new headquarters of the glass manufacturer Guardian in Michigan, the requirement was for the photovoltaic modules to resemble as closely as possible the conventional glass areas with the ‘Black Spandrel’ design.

At the corner, at the transition between the normal glazing and the photovoltaic elements, it can be seen – or rather it can’t be seen – that there is virtually no difference.

This was made possible on the one hand by using the back-contact cell from SunPower and on the other by covering the otherwise metallically shining bands with a special ink.

In order to ensure the aforementioned homogeneity with the rest of the glazing, the rear glass was provided by Guardian.

Responsible for the organisation on site was Anthony Pereira of AltPower, who together with his team has many years of BIPV experience and expertise.

France shows more interest once again in solar architecture

France was a boom market for BIPV in the years 2008-2010. Driven by the high feed-in tariffs for the building integration, ertex solar realised numerous projects during those years. These included, for example, the 200 kW project in the E.Leclerc Shopping Centre in Albi or the glass roof and façade systems in the Green Office® Meudon. Following several years of little turnover, the market is now beginning to move again.

In recent weeks a project has been realized in Paris with the customer ‘Les Ateliers David’, in which a classic rear-ventilated façade with standard materials was combined in the edge area with 168 photovoltaic modules made of 2 x 4 mm heat-strengthened glass with a total power of 24 kWp.

It is an integration that not only works well aesthetically, but also withstands the harsh conditions of the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment).
