As the solar industry moves toward the cost savings and durability of hot dip galvanizing, so moves Attala Steel Industries. Attala Steel Industries is adding a 30,000-square-foot galvanizing facility at its Kosciusko, MS, site, scheduled to be up and running by March 2013.

The new plant will complement the company’s existing structural steel mill and fabrication plant distinguishing Attala Steel as the only steelmaker with all three processing facilities in one convenient location. The new galvanizing plant will be fully automated featuring a 42-foot kettle and the latest advances in environmental technology.

“Sustainable, durable, maintenance-free steel structures are critical to the solar industry as owners seek to reduce costs and eliminate downtime,” says (Billy Atwood, President). “Hot-dip galvanized coatings provide a significant level of protection for these structures and often last as long as 75 years. This is an attractive offering for our customers as we are seeing more and more solar projects move toward longer life cycle guarantees.”

The new galvanizing facility will increase Attala Steel Industries’ scope of capabilities making it a one-stop shop for I beams, tubing, pipes and pedestal posts used in the mounting of solar panels. Attala Steel Industries, located in Kosciusko, MS, has been serving the solar industry since 2008 producing specialty structural steel products for the large-scale, ground-mounted PV solar fields.
