As CTO he will oversee ongoing development and scale-up of the advanced software and services platform that distinguish AMS's "behind-the-meter" storage systems.
Mr. Steven is an internationally recognized engineer and physicist best known for the development of large-scale, real-time IT solutions for the electric utility industry. With 30 years in executive level positions, he brings a rare combination of large organization and start-up experience. In addition, he will continue to serve as Secretary General of the Association of the Very Large Power Grid Operators (GO15), a not-for-profit organization composed of the 18 largest power grid operators in the world.
Prior to joining AMS, Mr. Steven served as CTO and co-founder of Viridity Energy, which specializes in advanced demand response and dynamic load management. He was also CTO and Vice President of the PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia to 61 million people and operates one of the world's largest wholesale electricity markets. In addition, he served as President of PJM Technologies, and CEO of Alstom ESCA Corporation, a major supplier of market and grid management systems. He was formerly Chairman of the University of Washington's Electric Energy Industrial Consortium and holds seven patents.
With more than four decades of experience in the electric utility industry, Mr. Steven has been instrumental in groundbreaking projects that facilitate the reliable operation of an increasingly distributed power system. More recently, he has focused on the management and optimization of distributed resources, including storage, renewable generation and demand side management. Mr. Steven is yet another industry veteran joining AMS's leadership team AMS welcomed Kelly Warner as President in October.
