ABB continues to broaden its portfolio and global footprint to support safer, cleaner and more sustainable solar energy.
The latest solutions provide the most comprehensive range of solar products for power generation and building applications, alongside future-proof energy storage solutions in residential sectors as self-consumption increases.
As the company focuses on driving safety, reliability and profitability within the solar energy sector and providing complete sun-to-socket solutions, Giovanni Frassineti, head of ABB’s Business Unit Solar confirms: “We emphasize our strong commitment and accelerate technological innovation through new product developments and expansion of our global sales and service footprint across all mature and developing solar markets.”
“At Intersolar 2018, we are proud to be showcasing innovative solutions to the market, across all power ranges for grid-connected and microgrid applications. Additions such as the revolutionary PVS-175 high-power string inverter, along with the new REACT 2 storage solution which can be integrated with ABB-free@home® and AC Wallbox EVLunic for car charging, demonstrate how solar power can be utilized today and for future needs. In addition, strong digital capabilities, realized through our ABB Ability™ platform and incorporated into our inverter portfolio, provide future proof solutions for a truly sustainable solar energy system.”
On the ABB Stand (No.210, Hall B2) the new 1500 Vdc high power string inverter, the PVS-175, for ground-mounted utility-scale applications has the highest power rating in this class and can achieve up to a 50 percent increase in exported power capacity compared with lower AC voltage systems. This product achieves an ultra-high power density of 1.3 kW/kg, maximizing the ROI of all ground mounted applications where it will be employed.
The new 1500 Vdc string inverter is also shortlisted in the Product of Year Category at the prestigious Intersolar awards.
Also, on-show, will be ABB’s new REACT 2 energy storage solution which includes a long-life battery and provides the largest residential storage capacity available of up to 12 kWh. REACT 2 delivers up to 10 percent greater efficiencies in energy usage than lower voltage alternatives, along with greater cost savings. With its modular design and integration with other products such as ABB-free@home® and AC Wallbox EVLunic for car charging, REACT 2 not only cuts home energy costs by up to 90 percent, but also makes it faster and more cost effective to harness solar energy.
Meanwhile, for the smart commercial building sector which utilizes solar power, PVS-50/60 is the ideal solution to help simplify O&M and importantly optimize total cost of ownership for the complete installation. PVS-50/60 also benefits from cutting-edge communication and control via the installer APP which improves commissioning time by up to 70 percent and can be easily integrated with third-party devices to integrate with existing energy management and monitoring systems.
ABB will further strengthen its PVS inverter range with the introduction of a cost effective, next generation, double power rated PVS980 central inverter. The new PVS980 central inverter, which will be available during 2019, is a compact single outdoor cabinet design enabling inverter integration with medium voltage components into a very cost effective 40 feet sea container sized skid solution.
A new bidirectional inverter PVS980-58BC, with power rating up to 2.3MVA, for large scale grid-connected energy storage applications will also be on show. The product enables solar plants to synergize their operations, maintenance and service schedules due to the same power conversion platform used now both in solar and energy storage converter. PVS980-58BC offers full four quadrant active and reactive power support with advanced grid support functions. As such the 1500 Vdc PVS980-58BC is suitable for high voltage battery banks and improves the competitiveness of the solution energy storage solutions.
Finally, the company introduces ABB Solar Care, which provides a fixed, annual flat fee service contract, to secure and protect the solar investment throughout its entire lifetime. The ABB dedicated service program allows customers to manage maintenance costs proactively and is available at two contract levels, Expert and Pro, depending on the customer’s set-up and support needs for their site. It includes a modular set of services for up to 30 years for reliable and plannable care of solar inverters.
At Intersolar 2018, ABB will firmly raise the bar in terms of driving next generation sun-to-socket solar capabilities through its new product development, service and digital offer.
