AUO to market solar products under BenQ brand name

Share

Taiwan-based AUO says the photovoltaics market has shifted from developing large-scale projects to the commercial and residential rooftop markets. As such, it believes the BenQ name, a well-known consumer brand, will help it to access these sectors. BenQ Solar is a new division of AU Optronics Corp., which in turn is part of the BenQ Group.

"In Europe, the U.S., and Japan, solar products have become consumer products," commented K.Y. Lee, chairman of the BenQ Group, adding, "With the support of BenQ’s well-established brand equity and global sales and service platform, BenQ Solar will rapidly expand its business and earn customer trust."

BenQ Solar offers both residential and commercial rooftop photovoltaic systems, in addition to modules for ground-mounted projects. Like many of its peers, it adopts a philosophy of high efficiency. In terms of its raw materials, it procures its polysilicon, ingots and wafers from M.Setek in Japan, and its cells from joint venture, AUO SunPower.
