The Chinese PV manufacturer expects to reach nameplate capacity – 500 MW of cells and 450 MW of multicrystalline modules, annually – within the next two months. It is JinkoSolar’s first overseas cell production facility.

In March, it was announced that JinkoSolar had signed a tenancy agreement with Nationgate Technology for the factory buildings and that it would invest US$100 million in new tooling.

"With the strong support of the local government and MIDA (Malaysian Industrial Development Authority), we were able to rapidly build and begin production in our new facility in Penang, Malaysia," commented CEO, Kangping Chen.

He added, "With the facility's production capacity almost fully booked by downstream orders, we will ramp up to full capacity soon while actively explore new opportunities to expand current capacity in the future."
