JinkoSolar supplies modules to CSEM-uae for research venture

China's JinkoSolar – a global leader in vertically integrated solar products – today announced that it has supplied solar PV modules to an independent, non-profit Swiss-UAE joint venture company to be used for the purposes of applied research.

CSEM-uae will use JinkoSolar's PV modules at its Solar Outdoor Laboratory, which is an R&D and innovation center located in the emirate of Ras al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

CSEM's renewable energy research laboratory has been built in the UAE to help further solar appetite in the region. The Solar Outdoor Laboratory will develop and test competitive solar energy solutions for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) market.

"We’re very proud to have the opportunity to participate in and demonstrate our leading solar-photovoltaic technology to the GCC market," said JinkoSolar CEO Kangping Chen. "As an emerging market, the GCC region with its substantial population serves as the ideal location to set examples for future solar projects.

"As one of the global leaders in the solar PV industry, we look forward to demonstrating the application of renewable energy technology in the Middle East region."

CSEM-uae's CEO, Hamid Kayal, added: "We are excited about the cooperation with JinkoSolar. As one of the global leaders in this industry, JinkoSolar will help and demonstrate the off-grid applications of solar power with completive cost per kWh. The UAE's government is committed to providing and developing clean energy. This project is going to be one of the best proofs of concept, demonstration and educational sites in the region."

The UAE has leant increasingly towards solar power in the past few years, led by the Emirates of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. However, Ras al-Khaimah has recently sought to explore its own PV path, most notably with last month's announcement by Utico – a local solar company that plans to develop a 40 MW solar plant in the emirate, expanding it to 120 MW is connection talks with the UAE national grid prove successful.
