The list of solar industry events canceled as a result of Covid-19 containment measures continues to grow. Many events have been canceled or postponed, reducing the opportunities for knowledge exchange, community building, and networking, but also for introducing new products or collaborations to a live audience and to generate new leads. But don’t fret, pv magazine is adopting new formats and will continue to push the boundaries with new digital event platforms.

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have developed a new kind of thermal battery that can greatly increase the energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness of many industrial processes and shows great promise for use in the solar industry. Liz Thompson reports that Argonne’s Thermal Energy Storage System (TESS) can rapidly capture and store surplus heat so that it can be used as needed. With its pioneering modular design and material advancements resulting in greater efficiency, TESS is a big step forward in thermal battery technology.
The emergence of the prosumer has been a feature of the rise of rooftop solar. But it can go far beyond the individual household or business, argues Frédéric Gastaldo, CEO of Tiko Energy Solutions. Gastaldo says that by connecting PV and other renewable arrays, true energy communities can emerge – accelerating clean energy uptake.
Where we’ve been: Intersolar North America Intersolar North America, held in early February at a beautiful San Diego waterside convention center, was a bit of a reset this year with new event organizer, Diversified Communications, taking the reins of the premier solar showcase in the United States. There were about 170 exhibitors in San Diego […]

The warranty risk of solar must be addressed early in the development phase of PV projects, as it is not possible to buy warranty insurance later during the operational phase. Decisions taken by developers at this stage will remain important for the next 25 years. The good news is that an industry standard exists, and it can be easily and cost-effectively applied to most PV projects, writes Ronald Sastrawan from Munich Re.
