Gehrlicher Ecoluz Solar do Brasil, a joint venture between Germany’s Gehrlicher Solar and Ecoluz Participacoes S.A., was awarded the project by Brazilian utility, Coelba last August.

It is said to be comprised of two different module technologies: (i) 238 kWp worth of United Solar Ovonic’s (Uni-Solar’s) PVL (photovoltaic laminate) modules, installed on the stadium roof; and (ii) 170 kWp worth of Yingli Solar’s monocrystalline modules, installed on locker room and parking canopies.

According to a statement released, some of the electricity generated will be used towards the stadium’s own energy consumption. "Pituaçu should be an example of how solar power works and the growth potential of this technology in a country like Brazil," stated Ana Mascarenhas, energy efficiency advisor of Neoenergia Group.

David Ricardo da Silva, CEO of Gehrlicher Ecoluz Solar do Brazil added, "The photovoltaic plant of Pituaçu Stadium is a landmark in the development of the photovoltaic market in Brazil and from now on, many other facilities will be made based on their concept."
