When coupled with gigawatt-scale solar and wind generation, green hydrogen could be the clean fuel to unlock hard-to-electrify sectors of the economy. In the past year, we've seen a wave of change in this industry, with advancements in technology and new projects. Indeed, in February 2021, a new report by the Hydrogen Council found that the release of national hydrogen strategies by over 30 countries has led to a rapid increase in the volume of investment in hydrogen projects worldwide. Overall, it estimates total investment will surpass US$300 billion by 2030, comprising 228 large-scale projects announced in the value chain, of which 85% are located in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
Recognizing this key trend in the energy transition, pv magazine has created a Hydrogen Hub to collect all the news (below) and feature articles (in the side bar) on the topic of green hydrogen, making it easy for you to stay up-to-date. As the industry develops, we will report on the most significant technological changes, co-location projects, and business models.
