The two leading European solar PV events will be held at the same time and location in 2016, in an effort to create the strongest solar energy event in the world, the organizers claim. It will be named EU PVSEC & Intersolar Europe 2016.
This years EU PVSEC exhibition and conference will proceed as normal to be held at the Congress Center Hamburg between September 14 to 18 but will move to Munich in 2016, running alongside Intersolar Europe between June 21 24. Up to 4,000 participants and speakers globally are expected to attend next year's event, in addition to around 40,000 trade visitors.
Held at a different venue annually since 1977, EU PVSEC became the worlds leading R&D conference and meeting point for PV professionals, scientists and researchers. However, the show has seen visitor and exhibitor numbers fall in recent years as Europes solar industry has contracted, and the organizers believe that running the event alongside Intersolar Europe will serve to consolidate both shows strengths.
According to the joint EU PVSEC and Intersolar Europe press release, the decision to go for a joint location will "strengthen Europes position with a strategy and information platform, providing a showcase for state-of-the-art technologies, products and the latest market developments of the PV and energy storage industry."
For exhibitors and visitors, a co-hosted event could serve to boost networking and commercial opportunities, although reducing the number of globally recognized solar trade shows in the European calendar from two dates to just one could be viewed as a further contraction of the scale and scope of the once industry-leading European solar landscape.
