Construction underway on 45 MW Sandstone solar project in Arizona

Share

Located in Florence, Arizona, the 45 MW project will sell all generated solar energy to Salt River Project (SRP), a non-profit community-based utility, under a 21 year PPA valued at around US$65 million, or 5.3 cents/kWh.

The Sandstone plant, owned by renewable energy IPP, sPower, is scheduled for completion by the year end, having secured all relevant permits and approvals. It will be kitted out with 182,000 JinkoSolar PV modules by Swinerton Renewable Energy, which has been contracted to undertake EPC services.

"The fact that solar power is becoming economical when compared to traditional energy sources means we can achieve our national goal of affordable energy independence and diverse power supplies all with less environmental impact,” commented U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar.

With the completion of the Sandstone project, SRP’s cumulative solar capacity will reach around 85 MW. The utility is said to be the third-largest public power utility in the U.S., serving approximately 990,000 electric customers in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
