Conergy enters residential solar leasing market

Downstream solar company Conergy has augmented its sales offer to include the solar leasing market having entered into a partnership agreement with European municipal utility network, Trianel Gmbh.

The agreement allows utility companies within the Trianel network to offer no-upfront cost solar systems to six million customers across the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The Trianel network exists across these four countries and develops new business models designed to boost each of its members’ competitiveness and independence. Under the terms of the agreement, Conergy will work with the 100-plus Trianel shareholders to design, install and maintain solar systems for every customer that requests one.

Trianel will use its ‘EnergieDach’ service to market the scheme and help boost solar installations in the residential segment of the four countries. "Self-generation solar energy is significantly cheaper for consumers in these markets, and leasing means no upfront costs and no hassle in terms of maintenance," said Conergy Deutschland CEO Anke Johannes. "We expect consumption of renewably-produced energy to increase considerably in European homes in the coming years."

EnergieDach enables municipal utilities that operate within Trianel’s network to offer residential PV systems to its customers, with the utility footing the costs of the initial investment, set-up ad operational management of the system. The residential customer acts as leaseholder and system operator, and is entitled to use the solar power generated for their own consumption.

Early testing carried out in Germany suggests that an average system should see customers save $13,000 over the 25-year term of the lease. Customers are also offered the option to buy additional electricity at preferential rates should their PV system prove insufficient for their needs.

Conergy has previously offered leased solar PV systems in Germany under a partnership with utility RWE.
