China waits on EU verdict

With the Chinese Ministry of Commerce having reportedly decided to wait until June to announce the results of its polysilicon anti-dumping investigations, commentators say the verdict will depend on the conclusions of the EU's parallel investigation into Chinese made solar panels.

Quoting an unnamed source at the ministry, the China People's Daily newspaper says the Chinese investigations have been near completion for some time.

The EU launched an anti dumping investigation into Chinese solar panels on September 6 and is expected to announce the result on June 6 whilst an anti subsidy probe into Chinese panels is expected to announce a decision on August 8.

Experts predict the Chinese anti dumping and anti subsidy investigation into US made solar grade polysilicon – started on July 20 – will announce its verdict soon after the anticipated June 6 decision from the EU.

China also launched an anti-subsidy investigation into South Korean polysilicon on July 20 and anti dumping and anti subsidy enquiries into EU polysilicon on November 1 before opening questioning on whether to apply retroactive subsidies on poly produced in all three markets, on November 26.
