The companies, which signed a joint venture agreement, have announced that phase one of the project will see the establishment of a 250 megawatt PV cell production facility at JA Solar's Yangzhou site. The potential to ramp capacity up to one GW, however, will exist.
Commercial production is expected to begin in the second half of this year.
"We are delighted to embark on this exciting initiative with MEMC, and to continue our successful approach to partnering with the world's leading solar companies," commented Peng Fang, CEO of JA Solar. "We expect that this alliance will further enhance the sustainability and profitability of our business over the long term."
The joint venture will be a 50/50 partnership between JA Solar and MEMC Singapore.
