On September 17, the Chinese manufacturer suspended production at its Haining manufacturing site, after fluoride from a waste storage warehouse was leaked into a nearby water channel.
On the 22, it provided an update on the situation, and outlined the measures it had taken to rectify the issue. These included isolating the polluted water channel section, and treating the affected water and soil, in addition to building a water collection system around the warehouse where solid fluoride waste is stored, and extending the outdoor warehouse area.
Furthermore, JinkoSolar said that it intends to invite representatives from Hongxiao village to come and speak with management on a regular basis. In todays release, the company said that it is currently waiting for a response from the village.
In order to restart operations, JinkoSolar says it completed all the steps recommended by Chinese government licensed environmental engineering firm, Licensed Engineers.
"These few steps complemented the measures that the company had already taken to upgrade its environmental protection practices immediately after the discovery that some amount of fluoride might have accidentally leaked into a small water channel behind its solid waste storage facility at the end of August 2011," it said in a statement issued.
Li Xiande, chairman of JinkoSolar added, "While we have always been fully committed to environmental safety and social responsibility, we understand from this accident that we always need to think about extreme and unforeseen circumstances and generally enhance our risk management practices."
