China's cumulative installed PV capacity reached 33.12 GW by the end of March, including 27.79 GW from ground-mounted PV plants and 5.33 GW from distributed solar, according to the countrys National Energy Administration (NEA).
New installations completed in the first quarter of 2015 accounted for 5.05 GW, consisting of 4.38 GW of ground-mounted solar and some 660 MW of distributed PV. Total solar power generation reached 8 billion kilowatt hours.
Data showed that eight provinces currently have a cumulative PV capacity of more than 1 GW: Gansu province has 5.76 GW, Xinjiang 4.66 GW, Qinghai 4.26 GW, Inner Mongolia 3.84 GW, Jiangsu 3 GW, Ningxia 2.17 GW and Hebei 1.52 GW. Six of the provinces are located in western China and only two in the eastern part of the country.
Meanwhile, the NEA is planning wide-ranging inspections that will examine the quality of equipment and system operations of ground-mounted PV plants and small-sized distributed PV installations. NEA officials hope address quality concerns regarding the construction and operation of PV plants in the country.
