The Supervisory board of Q-Cells SE has officially approved the realignment package suggested by the company on Wednesday, August 10 in response to the difficult market conditions. It also agreed two executive board changes.
Phoenix Solar AG is reportedly looking to enter the photovoltaic module business. Meanwhile, the company has recoded sizeable H1 losses, although it has a “pleasingly” strong order book for H2 2011.
The first half of 2011 has been less than stellar for photovoltaics, but there are indicators that demand will be much stronger in the second half. All bets are off, however, if the European debt crisis can’t be managed, or if the U.S. falls back into recession.
Bucking the negative trend, Manz AG has reported positive first half financial figures for 2011.
Germany-based S.A.G. Solarstrom AG is the second company of the day to post positive first half (1H) 2011 financial results. Its project planning and plant construction business has been identified as main driver.
Continuing with today’s positive trend, centrotherm photovoltaics AG has announced a successful first half (1H) of 2011. The company attributes most of its success to its solar cell and module division.
Isofotón is to build a 50 megawatt (MW) pilot photovoltaic plant in the Dominican Republic. The company additionally tells pv magazine that it intends to be “hugely” active in the country in the future.
Germany-based Sunways has had a rough start to 2011, with both its second quarter (Q2) and first half (H1) sales significantly declining. The company is remaining upbeat though, and expects to experience a better H2.
Following on the trend, Berlin company Solon has posted negative financial figures for the first half of 2011. Once again, the weak market, particularly in Germany, was cited as the causal factor.
In response to the current photovoltaic market conditions Q-Cells has said it will streamline its organizational structure and “permanently” reduce its German production capacity by 50 percent.
