Turkey launches tender for 800 MW of solar

Turkey’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has launched a tender for 800 MW of solar across six proposed projects. The deadline for applications is Jan. 27, 2025.

Chile publishes 2025-28 energy auction plan

Chile’s energy regulator has published its 2025-28 energy auction plan to secure about 22,500 GWh of new power contracts.

Fixing faulty inverters in PV plants via root cause analysis

Kiwa PI Berlin has fixed faults in inverters at a PV plant in South Africa by using root cause analysis. The project had experienced up to 130 failures related to insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs).

A turning point for Algerian solar

Algeria has long limited the use of solar to villages in the Sahara, but two large-scale tenders for 3 GW of generation capacity are expected to change that. By including a local content clause, the North African nation aims to build an industry around renewable energy.

Ireland to miss 2030 solar targets by at least 2.9 GW, says SEAI

New data from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) says there is no scenario in which Ireland will meet its 2030 solar deployment capacity of 8 GW. With existing measures in place, the reality would be more like 5 GW, the government-run group estimates.

Eskom secures licenses for 125 MW of solar

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has granted licenses for two solar projects to be operated by Eskom. Tenders for the construction of both projects, which have a combined capacity of 125.3 MW, took place earlier this year.

What happens when malware hits PV systems

A random malware variant affected about 800 remote monitoring devices at ground-mounted PV plants in Japan in May 2024. Tokyo-based cybersecurity firm Girasol Energy has told pv magazine what happened and how PV asset owners can protect themselves against such incidents.

Study shows sheep grazing under solar panels produces higher-quality wool

A study on the benefits of co-locating solar energy and sheep grazing shows that sheep grazing in the shade of PV modules may produce higher-quality wool than those on traditional agricultural properties.
