Today, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) announced that the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Corporation Limited has presented it with EPC contracts for three 10 MW solar plants in the state. Just a couple of weeks ago the company also signed EPC contracts for 80 MW of solar plants in India, which add to a solar portfolio in the country that now exceeds 300 MW.

The 80 MW contracts were announced on 29 July, for two PV sites. One 65 MW plant is to be developed in Neyveil, Tamilnadu for Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC), and a second 15 MW site is to be constructed at Medak, Telanga for Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The EPC contracts for the two projects are said to be worth Rs. 4370 million (US$65.4 million).

Just a couple of weeks after receiving those significant contracts, BHEL has announced it will provide EPC services for three 10 MW PV plants in West Bengal. The three projects will be developed in Mejia, Santaldih and Chharrah respectively, with combined contracts valued at Rs. 1690 million (US$25.3 million).

These contracts represent a big step in the right direction for BHEL, who has two cell and module manufacturing sites across India. With this additional 110 MW of solar projects, the company now has a solar portfolio of 330 MW within the country.
