Chilean utility Colbún has unveiled plans for a massive pumped storage hydropower project in northern Chile. The facility will use desalinated water from the Pacific Ocean to store energy and use it when it’s most needed.
Chinese battery manufacturer Svolt has cancelled plans to open a plant in the German state of Brandenburg. Meanwhile, its plans for cell production in Saarland, southwest Germany, continue to be delayed.
UK researchers have assessed the cost of a 24V soluble lead flow battery optimized for PV applications. They have found that a total component cost of GBP 50 ($62)/kWh could be achieved, which is half that of current nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) lithium-ion cells.
