Inside the Singulus repositioning and debt restructuring

Germany’s Singulus is one of the European and North American PV equipment suppliers that has had a difficult time in recent years. The company on Friday announced a restructuring of its debt and an acceleration of its move into new markets. pv magazine spoke to Singulus CEO Stefan Rinck.

US: Solar hits over 1% of utility-scale generating capacity

The latest data from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) shows that renewable capacity clearly dominates the new power plants being added in the U.S. Over 75% of U.S. large-scale electrical generating capacity came from wind, solar, geothermal and hydropower in the quarter.

IHS finds Chinese module suppliers dominate market

New data from IHS reveals that Chinese modules suppliers Trina, Yingli, Canadian and Jinko dominate the top of module supplier rankings for 2014, with Hanwha Q Cells the only non-Chinese firm in the top five. The top 10 suppliers have slightly increased market share by 1% from 2013.

SEIA rejects call for ITC phase down

A report from Stanford Graduate School of Business has called for the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) to be phased down, to see it reduced gradually to 2024. SEIA has rejected the report saying that it fails to take into account of the 100-year history of preferential tax treatment enjoyed by fossil fuels.

SunEdison to supply Macalester College 100% PV

Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is going to purchase sufficient solar power from SunEdison to offset 100% of its electricity consumption. A 25-year PPA has been signed saving the college “million of dollars.” The solar arrays will begin commercial operation in 2016.

Risen unveils plan to develop 1 GW in Inner Mongolia

Chinese PV manufacturer and project developer Risen Energy has revealed the highly ambitious plan to develop 1 GW of PV projects in Wuhai City, in the Haibowan district of Inner Mongolia. The first project under the proposal will be 200 MW, with the 1 GW goal to be reached in a three to five year period.
