300 MW Cestas project fully grid connected

Europe’s largest PV project has achieved full grid connection. The final of 25, 12 MW sub-plants was connected to the grid yesterday. The project inauguration is scheduled for December 1.

Big Sun to demonstrate tracker tech in 840 kW rooftop array

Taiwan will soon boast what tracker supplier Big Sun claims will be the world’s largest rooftop array utilizing dual-axis tracking technology. The 840 kW array will be installed onto a “food facility” in Taiwan’s Pingtung County and will have to be sufficiently robust to withstand extreme weather events such as typhoons.

REC reports record quarterly sales, close to full utilization

REC Solar has reported module shipments of 362 MW in Q3 2015, with the company on track to realize full-year modules sales of 1.2 GW. With a total capacity of 1.3 GW, the privately owned manufacturer looks set to increase shipments in 2016 through utilizing OEM production in Southeast Asia.

Tesla Energy to begin production at Gigafactory in Q4

Tesla Energy has brought forward plans to begin producing its Powerwall and Powerpack products at its Nevada Gigafactory to this quarter, in a move that will push back the delivery of some products to Q1 2016. Plans to commence cell production at the Gigafactory have also been accelerated, with cells set to roll off lines by the end of 2016.

Hanwha Q Cells steps forward as 1366 Direct Wafer PERC collaborator

Hanwha Q Cells has announced that it was the collaborator on the PERC Direct Wafer efficiency result announced late last month. Hanwha reports that an efficiency gain of 1.4% was achieved in only seven months using the innovative wafers.

SMA claims to have supplied one-third of North American PV capacity

German inverter giant SMA claims it has reached 7.5 GW of installations in North America, concluding that its inverters currently account for one-third of the continent’s installed PV capacity. SMA has been active in North America since 2001.

Deutsche Bank reviewing China solar demand targets

With evidence emerging that China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) is considering solar and wind tariffs by 5.5 – 6%, Deutsche Bank has signaled that it is currently revising its PV demand forecasts for the market for 2015/16. Deutsche Bank has described the timing of the potential cuts as “somewhat surprising.”

Update: Ikea winds up Hanergy distribution deal

Ikea will no longer distribute Hanergy Thin Film modules in Europe. The Financial Times, who has lead the coverage of Hanergy’s spectacular downfall, reported today that homeware giant has ended its agreement with Hanergy.

First Solar records Q3 sales of $1.3 billion

U.S. thin film producers and project developer First Solar has recorded quarterly sales of $1.3 billion for Q3 2015. With its book-to-bill ratio of one-to-one, the company has expressed cautious optimism for the U.S. utility scale market after 2016.

InnoLas to supply 800 MW of Sunrise PERC production

German laser production equipment supplier InnoLas has announced a deal to supply Sunrise Global Solar Energy with tooling for 800 MW of PERC production. InnoLas will ship five of its ILS-TT tools for Laser Contact Opening.
