61 MW solar project completed in Denmark

Located on the Lerchenborg estate around an hour away from Copenhagen on the Baltic coast, the 61 MW solar PV plant was completed in just five months by Germany-based Wirsol. It is owned by Wircon GmbH.

The plant comprises 248,730 PV modules from China’s Astronergy and 1,750 SMA inverters; and is the largest solar project to be realized by Wirsol.

"Due to the high level of insolation and a constant wind for cooling the modules, the site is ideal for solar energy generation," said Wirsol CEO, Peter Vest. Overall, the plant is expected to generate enough energy to power 30,000 households. No information was released regarding remuneration of the electricity, and a company spokesperson declined to provide details.

Wirsol is planning further solar PV projects in both Denmark and other Scandinavian countries in 2016. While the spokesperson again could not provide any details, they did tell pv magazine negotiations are underway on the projects. Overall, they added, Wirsol has worked on 160 MW of solar PV projects this year.
