11.7 MW of bifacial solar goes online in the Netherlands

Chinese bifacial solar module manufacturer Jolywood has announced a utility-scale solar plant relying on its n-type modules has been connected to the grid in the Netherlands.

The company said the project was built by Cooperation Unisun Energy and added, the facility is largest utility scale solar power plant built with N-type bifacial solar modules in all of Europe

The plant, incorporating around 40,000 Jolywood premium Double-Glass Bifacial Solar Modules, is close to a 15 MW wind turbine near Rilland, a village in the province of Zeeland, the Netherlands’ westernmost and least populous province.

“Unisun completed the procurement of modules and the construction of the power plant in just four months,” said Jolywood chairman Jianwei Lin.

“Based on the successful cooperation on the Zonnepark Rilland project in the Netherlands, Unisun and Jolywood will continue partnering on more solar projects in Europe, in total targeting a goal of 200 MW, from 2019 to 2020,” the company added.

The next two projects in the Netherlands, Jolywood added, are a 16 MW ground-mounted facility for Rotterdam airport and a 7 MW carport nearby.

The projects are being developed under the country’s SDE+ program for large-scale renewables. Under the first round of the 2018 program, around 6.5 GW of PV projects were assigned, and another 3.6 GW of solar was submitted for the autumn round. The SDE+ compensates for the difference between the cost price of renewable energy and the market value of the energy supplied. Only PV projects with a capacity greater than 15 kW and a large-scale energy connection are eligible for SDE+ subsidies.
