The latest iteration of pv magazine's Future PV roundtable forum, which was held at this year's Intersolar Europe in Munich, was attended by experts from up and down the solar supply chain. Cell makers and module suppliers, through to EPC’s and inverter manufacturers shared their insights on the latest developments in bifacial technology applications.

While there are a range of opportunities and improvements that bifacial technology can offer system architects, there are also some issues to bear in mind. Peijun Shen from Huawei elaborates on the strategy the inverter supplier follows to be on the cutting-edge of developments, and enable bifacial applications to be used in systems. He also says that for Huawei, industry trends are the reason to develop tailored solutions for bifacial. The increased yield with bifacial comes at a comparatively low price increase, making the turn inevitable.

Andreas Liebheit, of Future PV initiative partner, Heraeus, stated that companies all along the value chain have to “do their homework” and provide solutions to allow for the flow of technology developments to make PV an even more conducive choice of energy system. He also recognizes that many companies are already taking on the challenge, and presenting a plethora of solutions paving the way for bifacial systems.
