Longi Solar sets record for shingled cell module efficiency

Share

Longi Solar has achieved 20.66% front side conversion efficiency on a p-type monocrystalline module using a shingled cell layout. The benchmark for a module of this type was confirmed by the China General Certification Center, says Longi.

“This breakthrough in module conversion efficiency further confirms the development potential of monocrystalline PERC,” said Lv Jun, Vice President of Longi Solar. “We firmly believe this will completely replace mainstream products in the next three years, and effectively improve PV systems' power generation efficiency and reliability, which will in turn reduce LCOE and brings customers more benefits.”

Longi Solar has announced three efficiency records for its products this year, and is vying with fellow tier one module manufacturer JinkoSolar for the top spot in cell and module efficiencies.

Shingled cell modules have remained a niche product only available from a few manufacturers. However the technology is a concept with strong potential and the focus of research for top level manufacturers. In its press release, Longi Solar states it “will gradually bring its innovative technologies to mass production and apply these advanced technologies to its products”.
