At the recent Energy Storage Europe exhibition and conference in Düsseldorf, Germany, the topic of flexible sector coupling was discussed at length during the many talks and presentations.
In this short interview, IHS Markit’s senior market analyst for energy storage, Julian Jansen, gives his view on sector coupling and, in particular, the synergies it can help create between stationary storage and e-mobility – two of the real growth areas for battery technology.
Jansen also reveals what he believes will be the key drivers for the storage industry in 2018, revealing that IHS Markit has particularly high hopes for South Korea. “We are expecting more than 600 MW of stationary storage alone in South Korea this year, and it could be much bigger,” Jansen said.
With domestic demand for Korean cells and batteries expected to be high, this could have an impact on the global supply chain, Jansen adds.
