The MOU was signed between the two parties on March 10 at an event in New Dehli, during the French Prime Minister, Emmanuel Macron’s, state visit to India last weekend.
Under the agreement, Appolon will supply Topaz Solar with a compete turnkey system for the manufacturing of bifacial modules – said to be the first in India – in addition to providing technical know-how and sales support in Europe.
The delivery will take place between this coming December and February 2019, while between 100 and 150 MW of modules will be supplied to the European market, company chairman, Ganesan Natarajan told pv magazine.
Topaz Solar announced in February that it was planning to build a 1.2 GW solar PV module, and 500 MW cell manufacturing facility in India’s northeastern state of Odisha. As a first phase, it aims to manufacture 500 MW of modules.
At the time, Natarajan told pv magazine, “We are currently awaiting for the approval from Orissa State Government for some employment amendments. Otherwise they have already cleared our projects through their single window clearance. In all probability, the first phase will be ready for production by 2019.”
Today, he said that of the initial 500 MW capacity, Topaz Solar will manufacture 100 MW of bifacial modules and 400 MW of monofacial modules. This “will be increased later upon successful implementation,” he said.
