Ingeteam, the Spanish solar inverter manufacturer, has signed a lucrative deal with EPC company Sterling and Wilson to supply the GW-plus Sweihan PV project in Abu Dhabi with its 1,000 Vdc Ingecon Sun PowerMax B series central inverters.
In all, Ingeteam will ship 1.17 GW of inverters to Abu Dhabi, where the Sweihan solar farm is taking shape. The plant will be the world’s biggest single-site solar farm once completed, for which Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Company (ADWEC) has already signed a PPA for the solar energy produced onsite.
India’s Sterling and Wilson is conducting all engineering and construction works, and will receive the first shipments of Ingeteam’s central inverters in early 2018. The inverters are dual inverters, combining two power blocks with a common AC busbar that facilitates the direct connection to a medium voltage transformer.
Each inverter has a power output of 2,330 kW, and Ingeteam will supply them as pairs inside an Inverter Station, each of which is 4.66 MW. In total, 201 Inverter Stations will be shipped, comprising 402 dual inverters.
The centralized solution ensures the inverters are able to withstand the extreme climatic conditions found in Abu Dhabi, including intense heat and even violent sandstorms.
