Engie Axima, a unit of French energy company Engie specializing in climate control solutions, has issued a tender to select innovative ideas for solar energy and storage solutions.

The company stressed that selected solutions could be integrated in the group’s services offer at several unspecified locations. Proposals can be related to the entire range of PV technology, as well as to the solar-plus-storage business, Engie Axima highlighted.

New or hybrid technologies will also be considered, as well as solutions to optimize production, storage and consumption. The prototypes of the new technologies may be tested at Engie Axima’s facilities.

Proposals must be submitted by July 4, 2017. The winners of the tender will be announced on July 20.

Engie has recently started to expand in the solar sector through several M&A transactions. The company’s last move was the acquisition of Netherlands-based Sungevity International, the European unit of U.S. residential solar company Sungevity, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States in mid-March.

In mid-April, Engie also agreed to acquire a 30% equity investment through capital increase in Chinese solar developer Unisun Energy. A few weeks earlier, the company took full control of its solar and wind unit Compagnie du Vent, of which it already owned 59%, through the acquisition of the remaining 41% stake from France-based holding company Soper.

In May 2016, it acquired 80% of Green Charge Networks (Green Charge), a battery storage company based in California. In July 2015, Engie acquired a 95% stake in French solar developer Solairedirect for $222 million. In mid-March of this year, Bloomberg reported that Engie was planning to acquire German renewable energy company Innogy, a unit of Germany’s power provider RWE. Innogy completed the acquisition of German PV power and storage specialist Belectric in January 2017.

Engie is currently also active in the PV sector through its other subsidiaries Engie Green and La Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR).
