Sonae Capital acquires 10 MW solar facility in Portugal

Sonae Capital SGPS SA, a Portugal-based company primarily engaged in the tourism and hospitality sector, announced that its unit CapWatt, SGPS, S.A. has agreed to acquire renewable energy assets with a combined capacity of 15 MW in Portugal from Tecneira – Tecnologias Energéticas, S.A.

The transaction includes the acquisition of a 10 MW solar park located in Ferreira do Alentejo, in southern Portugal, and a 5 MW wind power plant in Loures and Arruda dos Vinhos, near Lisbon.

The solar plant was acquired for €29.1 million ($31.8 million), while the wind project was bought at a cost of €5.4 million. The operation must now be approved by Portugal’s competition authority.

Including these two plants, CapWatt’s renewable energy portfolio has reached 77 MW. Prior to this transaction, the company owned and operated 12 combined heat and power plants with 60 MW of installed capacity and 7 solar power plants with a total of 3 MW.

The company’s second largest solar facility is a 2.2 MW installation located in Alcoutim, in Algarve.
