Japan’s ESR/Redwood Group plans to expand an existing 3.5 MW rooftop PV plant in Osaka to 7.5 MW, according to an article in Japan Today. The PV system on the first roof at the distribution center was completed last November, and Redwood Group expects to complete the 4 MW addition in February 2018.
When complete, the PV plant will feature over 28,000 PV modules, and will be the largest rooftop solar project known to pv magazine staff in Japan. There are larger rooftop PV plants in China and the United States, however given Japan’s population density and lack of available land larger projects, either rooftop or ground-mounted, are more difficult.
The Redwood Group did not respond to pv magazine requests to verify information by press time.
